Matching strangers from Spotify data isn't something to be cagey about. Here's exactly what we read, what we compute, and what other users see — in plain English.
What we read from Spotify
- Your display name and your top 50 tracks and artists — the same data Spotify Wrapped uses.
- A 7-number sound fingerprint derived from your top tracks' audio features.
- We never see your playlists, saved library, private listening, email, or payment status.
What other users see
- Your display name, fingerprint chart, top 3 artists, and your match score with them.
- Your individual listening events and timestamps are never exposed.

Questions
Do I need to share my Spotify password?
No. You log in through Spotify's own OAuth flow — we never see your password. You can revoke our access from your Spotify account settings any time.
Will other users see my listening history?
No. They see your display name, your 7-dimension fingerprint chart, your top 3 artists, and the match score with you. That's it — never individual plays or timestamps.
How does the matching algorithm work?
We compute a 7-number vector from your top tracks' audio features, then measure Euclidean distance to every other user. Compatibility % is scaled against the 95th-percentile distance in the active user base. Ties break on shared artists.
Is this a Spotify product?
No. Soundkin is an independent project, not endorsed by or affiliated with Spotify AB. We use the Spotify Web API under their developer terms to read your top tracks and artists.
Is there a mobile app?
Soundkin is a web app. It works on any device — phone, desktop, tablet — via the browser.
How do I delete my data?
Email privacy@soundkin.app from the email tied to your Spotify account and we'll wipe your record. Or revoke our app access in Spotify settings — your next visit will be a fresh start.
